On December 5th, 1921, the iconic clock tower of the Hangzhou YMCA was completed. This clock tower is to commemorate Xie Honglai, one of the founders of the Chinese Christian YMCA. The building was the standard newspaper clock in Hangzhou at that time, and the bell sounded throughout the city for ten miles. The top of the tower is equipped with a water reservoir, so it is also called "bell water tower", which makes the clubhouse use clean and convenient domestic water. The Hangzhou YMCA has carried out activities such as civilian education, literacy campaigns, popularization of scientific knowledge, and the promotion of civilized styles, which have raised citizens’ awareness of education and their modern civilization.
